Trimäpee - Damaged Disposition

As part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, The Milk Shop Gang (Trimäpee http://www.trimapee.com/) showed their upcoming Spring/Summer collection to a sell out crowd of fashionistas who hailed from all parts of Australia and the world. Masses of people dressed in black looked on as models paraded down the runway in thinly draped, flowing garments. Lengthy light cottons, some in bold and bright colours, others in typical Melburnian black, seemed to convey a strong trend for this Spring/Summer.
Orange, a recurring colour throughout many of the shows during Spring Fashion Week, could well be a popular choice in the coming months. The show had a great ambiance. The garments with their dark, torn up kind of style exuded a sombre edge and the filthy warehouse in which the show was staged added to this atmosphere. It proved to be a really amazing show. Here is a sample of the top 11 designs (I couldn't cut from 300 photos I took down to 10, no matter how much I tried!), which in my opinion were the most wearable and most notable designs.
My favourite looks included the long sleeved shirts and trenches, which were layered and gathered to perfection and were very well suited to the light fabrics. The cut of the pants were quite Para-military, tapering in all the right places. The suit jacket in the women’s collection was one of my favourites; the cut is awesome. I would wear most of these designs in a flash (with the exception of the orange; I would prefer things in a more neutral colour.)

What do you think if these looks by Trimäpee?

Fashionistas+Free booze=FAT

As part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, Fat put on an exhibition to show a small collection of limited edition t-shirts (only 30 of each will be produced). The designers ranged from small to large scale designers such as Bassike, Chronicles of Never, Claude Maus, Perks and Mini (PAM), Ksubi, Romance Was Born among others. Unfortunately, many of the people were just there to take advantage of the free booze!

Anyhow, here are three attendees who I think were the cream of the 'crowd', each bringing a sense of style that was not overly manufactured, over styled and too contrived (visually pleasing and appropriate for the occasion)

Beards Beards Beards & More Beards

The season for keeping your face warm with a trusty bead is almost over, and with warmer weather just around the corner we will find fewer and fewer beards gracing men's faces. We will see more moustaches over "Movember" , and perhaps a few beards for those who are trying to make 'Decem-beard' catch on, but it is doubtful that there will be as many until winter arrives again. Throughout the winter months there have been some great beards walking about the streets of Melbourne, many of which I unfortunately only managed to admire from a far. Beards are wicked as far as I'm concerned (in case you haven't noticed that yet..). They just add to your style and give it a much more mature and 'I don't care' kind of attitude. They lend a wild, and tribal look to any ensemble and mixed with the right kind of fashion they can look wondrous! My favourite male model for many years has been France's Patrick Petitjean who has done many sensational shoots, from posing as an explorer to channelling Poseidon. During F/W08, he was on the cover of both 10Men and GQ Style, where his look (and his beard) can be described as nothing short of extrordinary. Here are some of my favourite photos from shoots he has done over the past few years.

Hopefully you now understand where I'm coming from when it comes to the beard!

Here are some big bushy beards straight from the streets of Melbourne, with each individual behind behind the fuzz making the look their own.

Exploring the Unknown

I had the delightful luck of running into this fantastic lady by the name of Meredith yesterday. I saw at a distance an old lady, fastening a table top to the roof rack of her car. She was effortlessly tossing rope over the roof over her car and bring it back around, making the rope more taught across the plank of wood. Meredith claimed that she was women of 88 going on 89 in a few months (you would never had guessed it though). Meredith asked me about my blog, what it was called, how she could find it, what my email address was and many other questions that you'd expect from a person of generation Y. Meredith explained to me, that she had always made an attempt to put some effort into the way she dresses. At this moment, she said she had just thrown on some clothes, to go searching through the hard rubbish collection in Camberwell for some gems. I love the way her pants sit at her ankles, the cut of them, the layering of her shirt and jumper underneath her jacket. Not to mention her awesome explorer-esk bowler hat and well wicked shoes! For me, it all just works so well together. Only in Melbourne would you be most likely to come across a lady as fascinating as Meredith.
